Lori Burgwyn, founder of Franklin Street Yoga Center, has been a dedicated yoga student since 1997 and a full time teacher since 2005. She has been greatly influenced and inspired by Baron Baptiste, Shiva Rea, Michael Johnson and is a student in the Shambhala-Buddhist tradition. She grew up in North Carolina and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1988. From 1988-2005 she worked in the art auction business/sales field while living in the Philadelphia area. Coming home to North Carolina really meant coming home to Chapel Hill. She opened FSYC in 2007. Combining creative vinyasa sequences with healthy alignment, great music, and lots of heart, Lori encourages transformation through challenging classes designed to help anyone awaken to their potential. In addition to teaching classes and workshops, she is the director of teacher training at FSYC and is registered with Yoga Alliance at their highest 500 Hour level. She has been a presenter at the National Graves Disease Conference, Texas Yoga Conference, LeaderShape, NC Public Relations Society Chapter and honored with the Chapel Hill Rose Award for Best Yoga Teacher. Her clients include the UNC Women’s Volleyball, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Softball, Swimming and Dive Team and the Men’s Tennis team. Karma Yoga guides her journey as a teacher and student and she serves as a mentor and ambassador for the Africa Yoga Project based in Nairobi, Kenya. She is committed to the protection of animals and their legal rights. Her four rescue dog keep her centered, grounded and at peace.
